Chapter 13. A Sister’s Promise


1.Ram said the luck came from inside the person. Explain what he meant.
I think he refers that everyone makes his own luck, the fate is something that is in our hands and we aret he owners of our fate.

2.Does the story have a happy end? Explain your answer.
In my opinion yes, he finaly get marriage with the girl he loves, and he get the money he deserve from the show, or a part, so the other part is from the State.Also he helps Salim and I’m sure he will help all the people that they asked for it.


Chapter 12. The Last Question


1.In this chapter we learn the true reason why Ram Mohammed Thomas went to the show Who Will Win a Billion. What is it?
He wants to kill the presenter of the show because is the man who trats bad Neelima and the man who asked for money to Nita’s family.

2.Why did Ram choose the answer A?
Because he didn’t trust the presenter andhe knows he was lying althought he didn’t kill him.

3.What was Smita’s secret?
She is Gudiya and she wants to help Ram as he had helped her in the past.



Chapter 11. Look after your Buttons


1.Do you think Prakash Rao was right in giving his wife all what she wished? 
No because the women only wants the money and she used he.

2.Is that a reason to steal and betray your own family? 
No, the family is more important that money so you can’t do bad things for your brother to obtain money that not cares.

3.What is voodoo and in which country do people usually practise it?
 It can be defined as a set of beliefs, rituals and practices that have magical aspects that can change the lives of human.

4.How did she make vodoo to Prakash Rao’s brother? 
She kills a chicken and put the head of the doll into the chicken’s blood.

5.In your opinion, who was more cruel to each other, Prakash or Arvind Rao? Why? 
 Makes  voodoo and kill his brother and  Arvind Rao only brought Parkash back from America to a small office and orders he to pay back half of the stolen money out of the salary.

Chapter 10. At home with a killer


1.Explain how Salim became a junior actor.
He had to make a living, so he find job as a servant. He started to work for a manager, the man whose work is to make junior actors stars. s he could send them to the principal director.

2.Would you betray someone who has saved your life if you know he’s a criminal?
No. If he's save my life that's the thing I consider.

3.Why do you think Thomas didn’t tell Salim about the quiz show?
Maybe he didn't want to take it for granted that he would achieve a billion rupees, so when he winthem he would tell him

Chapter 9. A Love Story


1. Ram and Nita fell in Love. But why could they not get married?
Ram Nita wanted to go marry, but her family and her husband had chosen..

2. Nita is engaged to a rich and successful man who will pay her family 40,000 rupees. Do you think arranged marriages are a good idea?
No has to marry anyone they wish. No one has to choose a husband to anyone, even your family. Marriage is a sign of eternal love and fidelity, not a contract. That this fact should change.

As much pain or disappointment that a mother feels for her child ... You should never say that, it should never feel it more because it is your child.

4. In this chapter we see Thomas is really generous. Why?
 He decides to give the remaining money to the teacher of English

5. Why is this chapter particularly important?
Because it is crucial for Ram to win the final prize. without the target that the English teacher gave him, he would never have guessed the Sheakespeare's question.

6. How was the man of the hospital able to pay Thomas back?
He just helped Ram answering one of the final questions in order to get the final prize of one billion rupees.





Chapter 8. Murder on a Train

1.Fifty thousand dreams had suddenly been taken from me. “What did Ram mean?”
He left the money that he made on the train after the man attempted to steal it.

2.Thomas is thinking about the Police and asks himself: “Would the Police tell me that I was a hero for killing a robber? Or would they call me a killer who had shot a man dead without even knowing his name?”. Why does he think this? What do you think the Police would tell him?
Because he feels guilty because he doesn't know who was the robber.

Chapter 7. How to speak Australian


1. Who do you think phoned the inspector about Colonel Taylor and Jeevan Kumar?
I think it was one of the servants of Colonel Taylor because he wanted to revenge on him.

2. Why was Thomas  diferent from the other servents that Colonel Taylor had had?
Ram had never lied to him. He was the perfect servant for Colonel Taylor.

3. Now Thomas has 52,000 rupees. What will he do? How will he spend them?
He would spend these money in the travel to Mumbai. He wanted to go to that city because he would like to see Salim.

4. Where did he get all this Money from?
He saved the money that he won for working as a servant of Colonel Taylor.

Chapter 6. A Brother’s Promise


1. Do you think Ram should have helped Gudiya?
Yes because she needed him as the brother she had never had and Ram need to protect her because she hadn't anyone to be her hero.

2. Will the Police find him and arrest him for the murder?
No, only Gudiya knew who was the murder but she looked like a brother the killer of her father.

3. Will see ever see his brother and Gudiya again?
Yes, Smita, the lawyer of Ram was Gudiya and she wanted to see if he was telling the truth. He also promised her that they would see eachother in the future.

4. Would you interfere if you knew your neighbour is beating his wife and daughter?
It would depend on my relationship with my neighbours but in any case I would talk with the mistreated wife and daughter and tell the police if the things went worse.

Chapter 5. A soldier’s story


1.He talks about a war. When was it and which countries were fighting each other? Why?
He talks about the war between India and Pakistan in 1971. They fight because they wanted to make the other country part of its own.

2.How did the old soldier’s stories help Ram with the answer to the next quiz question?
Because the old soldier explained that the highest award for the India armed forces was not given to him. In the programme Prem Kumar asks Ram the question: "What is the highest award given to the Indian armed forces?" Ans he knows that the answer is Param Vir Chakra


Chapter 4. Tragedy Queen


1.Ram knew Neelima’s lover face although he couldn’t remember exactly where from. Who do you think it was? Where might he have seen him before?
Maybe he could know him from Maman’s group or from the orphanage.

2.Neelima says about her lover: “sometimes I think that he loves me. Sometimes I think that he hates me”. Why does she say this?
Because, when the man was angry he hit Neelima and when he was happy, all was alright.

3.In your opinion, why men mistreat women? Why is Neelima mistreated?
People who mistreat others are cowards, they don’t know how people feels and also they don’t have feelings, they are crazy and they have to be arrested all of them.

4.What happened to Neelima in the end? Name three true celebrities who died the same way.
She dressed up, took all of her awards and then Ram find her body dead.

Chapter 3. A Home for the disabled


1.How did Ram and Salim meet?
One day, while ram was living in the orphanage, a new kid came into the orphanage. They were both sent to the speared room, because they were ill.

2.Why did they like each other?
They liked watching films, and wanted to be actors.

3.What was the Delhi’s Children home like?
Ram said that it was crawded, dirty and noisy.

4.Why and how did they escape?
Maman, owner of a very important school, decided to take Salim. The owner of the ophanage told them to take Ram with they, because if the take Salim, they had to take Ram too

5.Where are they Planning to go?
They planned to go to Neelima Kumari's house.

6.How are they going to survive there? 
Neelima needed a servant, and Ram want to be it. Salim had to live alone in a little chawl while Ram earned the money being Neelim's servant.

Chapter 2. Father Timothy


1.Father Timothy gave the orphan three names. How would these names help the boy?
Father Timothy called boy: "Ram Mohammad Thomas". He put this names to help the boy to have a good relation with three different religions: Hindu, Muslim and Christianity.

2.Find out about the wars between India and Pakistan and answer: In your opinion, why did Father Timothy give him these three names?
If your name is from other religion, in India they can murder you just because not being part from the their community, you are different than they.

3.How did Ram spend his childhoo?
He used to play with other kids of the neighborhood. And when Fathers Timothy went to UK to visit his family, Ram went also. Also, Ram learnt English, in the future this language help Ram a lot.

4.How diferent was Ram Mohamed Thomas’ childhood from yours?
I remember my childhood very happy, when you are a child you lived different than when you becomes an adult, your point of viewer, your innocence…

5.In your opinion, what is going to happen to Ram after Father Timothy’s death?
He might be taken to an orphanage. But, he could go where he want like many other kids do, when they haven’t family or place to live.

1. Why was Ram surprised to see Smita? 
When Ram saw Smita, he was so surprised because he was being tortured.

2. In your opinion, who sent Smita? How did she know about his arrest?
I think that she wanted to went in her because she needed to help her friend and he knows that she see this Tv show and when Ram Mohammed appear she saw him .

The Author

Vikas Swatup was born in Allahabad in India. After going to the Allahabad Boys High School and College, Vikas went to study psychology, history and philosophy at Allahabad University. In 1986, he joined the Indian Foreign Service. As a diplomat, he worked in Turkey, the United States of America, Ethiopia, Great Britain and South Africa. In august 2009 he became consul general of India in Osaka, Japan.

Q and A, The title of the book which was made into film Slumdog Millionaire, was his first book. It took him only two months to write, but has been published in forty-two different languages and made into very successful film. He was written a second novel, Six Suspects, which was published in 2008.

Vikas like listening to music, playing cricket, tennis and table tennis. He is married to Aparna and they have two sons, Aditya and Varun.
